Become an Angel - FAQs

Questions prospective Angels often ask

What experience do I need?

Animal Angels Pet Sitting

What experience do I need?

Our house and pet sitting bookings range from caring for a single cat through to multiple dogs and even smallholdings with a variety of farm animals.

Our clients rely on us to provide capable and competent pet and house sitters to match their requirements, so your pet care experience is vital. The more experience you have with a wide variety of animals, the greater the range of bookings that will be available to you. We require you to have at least 15 years of animal care experience as an adult.

We’ll make sure you’re fully aware of what will be required of you before you accept a booking.

How long do bookings last?

Animal Angels Pet Sitting

How long do bookings last?

To give our clients complete flexibility, we have no minimum or maximum booking length.

New clients will often book for a long weekend to start with. This introduces them to the service and gives them the confidence to book for longer periods.

Where possible we try to give our clients the same house and pet sitter every time they book with us. This provides continuity and allows a strong relationship to build up between the sitter, the client and their pets.

How often can I expect bookings?

Animal Angels Pet Sitting

How often can I expect bookings?

We’ll endeavour to offer you bookings all year round, subject to your availability. You would be under no obligation to take any bookings that we offer you.

The sitters who get the most bookings are generally the ones who are most flexible with their time and most willing to travel. It takes new sitters time to build up a base of regular clients. You may find you don’t pick up many bookings to begin with, but each booking you complete successfully to the delight of the client will increase the possibility of future bookings.

Am I insured while on a booking?

Animal Angels Pet Sitting

Am I insured while on a booking?

Yes, we have comprehensive insurance in place covering all aspects of our house and pet sitting service. This would cover you if a problem occurred due to your own negligence, however you would be responsible for paying the £250 excess in the event of a claim.

I have my own pets. Can I still be a sitter?

I have my own pets. Can I still be a sitter?

Yes, you can, but you won’t be able to take your pets with you on bookings.

Will I meet the client before the booking?

Animal Angels Pet Sitting

Will I meet the client before the booking?

Yes, the preliminary meeting with the client is very important. It’s an opportunity to meet the client and their pets in their own home and to discuss their house and pet sitting requirements in detail.

Will my travelling expenses be reimbursed?

Animal Angels Pet Sitting

Will my travelling expenses be reimbursed?

You will receive £30 to cover your costs for each preliminary meeting with a new client. In addition you will receive travelling expenses when you attend a booking. If you are travelling by car you will receive 40p per mile, or if you’re using public transport the client will reimburse your economy class fare. This is capped at £70 for your return journey.

What will I be paid for looking after clients’ pets and homes?

Animal Angels Pet Sitting

What will I be paid for looking after clients’ pets and homes?

The basic daily rate is £29 (excluding travelling expenses). This will be paid to you directly by the client.

The fee covers the care of the client’s home and goes up based on the number of animals you’re asked to care for. For example to care for a client’s home, one dog, two cats and some goldfish for ten days you would receive the following:

   £29.00 basic rate
+ £2.50 for the dog
+ £2.50 for the two cats
= £34.00 per day

So for the ten days you would receive £340.00 plus your travel expenses.

We suggest that the client pays you 25% prior to their departure and 75% on their return.

Will I have time to explore the area?

Animal Angels Pet Sitting

Will I have time to explore the area?

Yes, you will have three hours off during daylight hours to explore the area and make use of local amenities

It’s important that you remain in the client’s home as much as possible to ensure its security while they are away. However if your duties mean you have to leave the premises, for example to walk the client’s dog or take a pet to the vet, this will be in addition to your three hours off.

What happens if I have a problem while on a booking?

Some clients actually request couples, particularly if they have several animals to look after.
